Peculiar field-dependent magnetic behavior of cyano-bridged coordination polymer Er(H2O)4[W(CN)8

The two-dimensional cyano-bridged coordination polymer Er(H(2)O)(4)[W(CN)(8)] exhibits a magnetic transition at 12 K and an unusual field-dependent transition from short-range to ferromagnetic ordering.     

Amphiphilic and mesomorphic fullerene-based dendrimers

Growing attention is currently devoted to large dendritic structures for applications in nanotechnology and materials science. In this respect, the incorporation of such compounds into thin ordered films appears to be an important issue. One of the most widely pursued approaches to structurally ordered dendrimer assemblies has been the preparation of Langmuir films at the air-water interface. We report on the case of a diblock globular fullerene-based dendrimer and show that peripheral substitution of the dendrimer with hydrophobic chains on one hemisphere and hydrophilic groups on the other provides the required hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance allowing the formation of stable Langmuir films. A second approach has been to consider the case of fullerene containing dendrimers terminated by mesogenic groups such as cyanobiphenyl subunits. Whatever the generation is, up to the fourth one, all these compounds exhibit a well-defined liquid crystalline smectic A phase. The molecular organisation within the smectic layers is found to be monolayered or bilayered depending on the generation. For the smallest dendrimers, the organisation is mainly governed by the size of the fullerene moiety, whereas for the higher ones, it is governed by the interactions between the terminal mesogenic groups. These two approaches appear particularly interesting for functional groups such as fullerenes, which are not well adapted to be organised in nanoscale architectures. The present study shows that fullerenes can indeed be introduced into different types of ordered structure when they have been chemically adequately modified.     

Sweeping total reflection X-ray fluorescence optimisation to monitor the metallic contamination into IC manufacturing

Among the methods available on the market today to control as metallic contamination in integrated circuit manufacturing, Sweeping Total reflection X-ray Fluorescence mode appears a very good method, providing fast and entire wafer mapping. With the goal of a pertinent use of Sweeping Total reflection X-ray Fluorescence in advanced Integrated Circuit manufacturing this work discusses how acceptable levels of contamination specified by the production (low levels to be detected) can be taken into account.

Cis-2,4- and cis-cis-2,4,5-substituted tetrahydrofurans have been prepared stereoselectively using electrophile-mediated cyclization of β-hydroxyhomoallylsilanes, readily available from α-silylacetic esters.     

Synthesis and antiproliferative evaluation of glucosylated pyrazole analogs of K252c

Pyrazole analogs of the staurosporine aglycon K252c were recently described as potent inhibitors of the three Pim protein kinase isoforms. To evaluate the impact of the introduction of a sugar moiety on the biological activities of this heterocyclic scaffold, four new glucosylated pyrazole analogs of K252c were synthesized. Their biological evaluation demonstrated that most active compounds 11 and 19 substituted by a β-d-glucosyl moiety at N12 or N13 positions exhibited antiproliferative activities toward HCT116 cells.     

Synthesis and optical properties of isomeric branched pi-conjugated systems

[structure: see text] Branched conjugated systems with a terminal alkyne function have been prepared starting from 4-(triisopropylsilylethynyl) phenylacetylene by applying the following iterative reaction sequence: (i) metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of the terminal alkyne with 3,4-dibromobenzaldehyde or 2,5- dibromobenzaldehyde; (ii) Corey-Fuchs dibromoolefination and treatment with an excess of LDA. The building blocks thus prepared have been subjected to a Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with 1,4-diiodobenzene to yield isomeric branched pi-conjugated systems containing 7 (first generation) or 15 (second generation) phenyl units connected by ethynyl spacers. The different pi-conjugation patterns in those isomeric derivatives have a dramatic effect on their electronic properties, as attested by the differences observed in their absorption and emission spectra. Finally, theoretical calculations have been performed to rationalize the optical properties of these compounds.     

Microwave-enhanced ruthenium-catalysed atom transfer radical additions

The first monomode microwave-assisted atom transfer radical additions (ATRA) of carbon tetrachloride to various olefins were successfully performed, affording the adducts with almost quantitative yields in less than 10 min at 160 °C.     

Oxidative cleavage of C-Si bonds in polyhydroxylated silacyclopentanes

Oxidative cleavage of C-Si bonds of polyhydroxylated silacyclopentanes under various conditions have led to both the desired polyols and to Peterson elimination products. Further studies on the reactivity of these silacycles, under acidic and basic conditions have been carried out, leading to unexpected results. Treatment of these silacycles under basic conditions thus provided various diols after the cleavage of C_sp³-Si bonds. A mechanistic rationale has been proposed for each case.
